The Cabinet derives its mandate and functions from the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995.

The Constitution contains articles which provide for the establishment, composition and functions of the Cabinet for the efficient running of the State and empowers Cabinet ” to determine, formulate and implement the policy of the Government and to perform such other functions as may be conferred by the Constitution or any other law”,and “to protect the Constitution and promote democratic governance in Uganda”.

The current Cabinet was sworn in in July 2021 and its term ends in May 2026.
